Coming from valet.sh 2.x?
3.x contains breaking changes and does not migrate any data. Follow the Upgrade from 2.x to 3.x guide before you switch.
Data services (MySQL, MariaDB, Elasticsearch, OpenSearch, Redis, Valkey, RabbitMQ, Mailpit) no longer run as native packages but as containers - Apple Containers on macOS, Podman with systemd user units on Ubuntu. PHP, Nginx, dnsmasq, Composer, Node.js and Magerun still run natively.
The second big change is that most services are now optional and installed/removed on demand instead of being bundled with every installation:
- Only a small essential baseline (
nginx, dnsmasq, mailpit) is installed automatically - see Services. - Everything else (PHP, MySQL, MariaDB, Elasticsearch, OpenSearch, Redis, Valkey, RabbitMQ, Node.js, Composer, Magerun) is installed only when you ask for it, via install.
- New uninstall command to remove a service you no longer need.
- init-instance automatically installs whatever service versions your project's .valet-sh.yml declares, if they aren't installed yet.
- Mailhog has been fully replaced by Mailpit, which is now part of the essential baseline.
